Hinshaw's Chicago Office Will Host Discussion of SCOTUS "Masterpiece Cakeshop" Decision
Event
Jun 28, 2018
Hinshaw's LGBTQ Affinity Group will host a discussion of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. Presented by Vincent Rizzo and titled "Can LGBTQ People Have their Cake and Eat it, Too? What the Supreme Court REALLY said," the discussion is scheduled for Thursday, June 28 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Central at the firm's Chicago office. The Masterpiece Cakeshop case centered on a Colorado baker who had refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple’s wedding on the basis of his religious beliefs. The Court decided 7-2 that a Colorado Civil Rights Commission ruling against Jack Phillips violated his First Amendment "free exercise of religion" rights.
