Robert Shannon Authors Article on Legal Issues Involved in NBA Lockout and Its Resolution

Robert T. Shannon, a Partner in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, authored the article, “NBA Players, Owners Prepare to Salvage Season With New Agreement,” which appeared in the November 29, 2011, edition of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The piece discusses the National Basketball Association (NBA) lockout, including what led to it and the legal and business arguments of the two sides, as well as the tentative deal that ultimately led to resolution of the impasse. Topics addressed at length in the article include basketball-related income, the luxury tax and salary caps, the players’ complaint before the National Labor Relations Board, and the antitrust lawsuits filed by several players against the NBA.
Mr. Shannon has served as litigation counsel for the Chicago White Sox for more than 10 years. Through this work and that for hospitality clients, he has developed a practice focus in defending public venues in security, premises and tort matters. Additionally, Mr. Shannon works with the gaming and hospitality industries and other corporate clients, handling litigation, licensing and regulatory matters. Mr. Shannon also has an extensive practice defending Illinois state agencies, and county and municipal governments in litigation.
