Calvin Edwards Honored With 2026 Rising Star Award by the Black Men Lawyers’ Association

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that associate Calvin Edwards of the firm’s Chicago office has been honored as a 2026 Rising Star Award recipient by the Black Men Lawyers’ Association (BMLA).
Each year, the BMLA honors exceptional emerging leaders with the Rising Star Award—recognizing their commitment to the association’s pillars of leadership, fellowship, and positive change. Calvin and fellow honorees were recognized at the BMLA’s annual Global Summit and Black-Tie Scholarship Gala, held on June 4–6, 2026.
About the BMLA
Founded in 2017, the Black Men Lawyers Association (BMLA) is rooted in fellowship, leadership, and a commitment to positive change. As an organization, it provides a space for members to connect and support a shared goal of advancing inclusivity in the legal profession.
The BMLA fosters organic relationships and mentorship through signature events, including its Annual Leadership Summit, Quarterly Round Table Discussions, and Office Hours.
About Calvin
Calvin defends local governments and private entities in civil rights, employment, and tort litigation. He handles a wide range of matters, including 42 U.S.C. § 1983 civil rights claims, personal injury, premises liability, and complex insurance coverage disputes.
With experience in both the public and private sectors of defense, he brings a well-rounded perspective to the challenges facing governmental entities and their employees.
In addition, Calvin remains actively engaged in the legal community. He serves on the DePaul Moot Court Alumni Board, where he coaches and advises law students preparing for national competitions, and he is a member of several professional organizations, including the Black Men Lawyers' Association, the Cook County Bar Association, and the Hispanic National Bar Association.
