About Ed
With more than three decades as a business litigator, Ed defends the interests of clients across industries in both litigation and regulatory proceedings. In addition to helping his clients navigate their current legal issues, Ed provides insights for managing and mitigating future risks.
Ed leverages his extensive experience to counsel attorneys and other professionals on client liability, fee disputes, and disciplinary claims. He has particular experience advising and focusing on financial elder abuse claims and also works with banks, credit unions, and fintech lenders on loan and deposit disputes. Additionally, Ed has substantial experience in addressing commercial crime risks faced by financial institutions, including internet-based payment systems and digital asset fraud.

Experience
- Represented a Hinshaw client in a landmark appellate court decision recognizing that financial institutions could assert in pari materia defense against successor bankruptcy trustees suing a bank based on customer insider fraud.
- Represented a bank in the successful defense and appeal of an insurance bad faith action based on a $49 million FDIC professional liability claim against the bank officers for alleged negligent commercial real estate lending practices.
- Prevailed in a retrospective premium rating liability action based on alleged misclassification of risk.
- Defended a client in an investment sales practices liability case based on the sale of variable annuities.
- Prevailed in establishing that a Jones Act liability claim is not covered by workers compensation insurance.
