Hinshaw's Miami-based partner David S. Weinstein was cited by Darren Samuelsohn in his Politico article "It's a big FU from Mueller." The article discusses the federal indictment of 12 Russian military intelligence officers, who stand accused of seeking to "subvert American politics" during the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. The indictments, which are linked to the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, were filed days before a scheduled summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Although some have suggested the timing of the announcement was intended to sabotage the summit, Weinstein argued instead that Mueller couldn't win either way with his choice of timing. "Had the indictment been released after the Putin summit, there would have been allegations that by keeping this under wraps it undermined the president's abilities to have a conversation about the probe," he said.

On July 13, 2018, Weinstein also discussed the indictment with the news team at CBS4 Miami. He suggested that "more is yet come" from the special counsel's investigation, and with regard to the timing of indictments noted that "Mueller doesn't have a timetable … this is how the system works."
