About Karena
With over a decade of experience, Karena focuses on issues in the financial services sector, with an emphasis on disputed and litigated general commercial, financial services, and bankruptcy matters. She represents mortgage lenders, servicers, and other financial institutions in all aspects of mediation and court proceedings, from pre-litigation resolutions through trial and appeal. While Karena’s practice centers on contract litigation and enforcement, she also advises clients on broader financial disputes.

- Managed trials as both first and second chair on a wide range of issues arising from financial services, banking, and mortgage disputes.
- Represented a mortgage servicer on appeal where the adversary sought to limit what business records would be admissible to signal compliance with RPAPL 1304, a statutory condition precedent to foreclosure.
- Defended appeal where adversary was seeking to challenge personal jurisdiction, which would have resulted in dismissal of the underlying action and a multi-million-dollar lien loss.
- Defended a commercial landlord against a multi-million-dollar claim for lost profits resulting from a constructive eviction before the New Jersey Superior Court, Hudson Vicinage
- Invalidated the claims of a lead defendant in a putative class action prior to certification, avoiding protracted litigation with multi-million-dollar exposure.
- Defended against borrower demands for injunctive relief and challenges to the validity and enforceability of a series of multi-million-dollar commercial loans and judgments before the Appellate Division, First Department.
