Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that The American Lawyer has ranked the firm #83 out of 219 law firms surveyed in its 2022 Diversity Scorecard. Hinshaw improved its ranking by eight spots from the 2021 Scorecard and 22 positions from the 2020 Scorecard. This improvement comes against the backdrop of the legal industry making significant gains, increasing the overall percentage of minority attorneys across large law firms from 18.5 percent to 20.2 percent, the biggest year-over-year shift on record.
This year's Scorecard featured a significantly revised methodology that focused not only on percentages but also on how firms are creating pathways for the long-term success of their diverse attorney talent.
Firms are ranked by Diversity Score, with the lowest number being the best. The American Lawyer ranks firms in a series of metrics assessing their racial and ethnic diversity across three distinct categories: Firm Leadership, Equity Partners, and Other Attorneys. Diversity Score is determined by combining the three scores created by these rankings and dividing the total by the number of metrics applicable for each firm. Hinshaw's Diversity Score in 2022 was 3.87.
