Kendra L. Basner and Cassidy E. Chivers, San Francisco-based partners in the Lawyers for the Profession® group at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, authored the article "Hollywood swoons over lawyer ethics," published by the Daily Journal on May 6, 2016.
The article analyzes how Hollywood has been making a lawyer's navigation through ethical challenges a main storyline. Ms. Basner and Ms. Chivers identify the elevation of this trend as the 1995 O.J. Simpson murder trial, when cameras were allowed into a Los Angeles courtroom for a live look at the entire 134-day trial. The live broadcast of the trial and subsequent media coverage changed how Americans think about trial lawyers. The article continues discussing the various recent documentaries and movies including "Making of a Murderer," "Serial," and "Spotlight" that touch on attorneys and legal ethics.
