Eric Borneman represents businesses, individuals, and governmental entities in litigation. He also counsels clients and works with them to revise and develop bylaws and policies, and also mitigate future risks.

Eric partners with his clients throughout the legal process to ensure they are informed and that their goals are met. Leveraging his extensive trial experience, he helps clients resolve a variety of disputes.

Before joining Hinshaw, Eric was an Assistant State's Attorney for the Stephenson County State's Attorney's Office in Freeport, Illinois. As a prosecutor, Eric was the lead attorney in close to 100 trials. He handled a wide range of cases—from petty offense traffic tickets to violent felonies and civil matters involving protective custody and parental rights. For the majority of his tenure, Eric was also the county's sole abuse and neglect prosecutor.

During law school, Eric spent a semester serving as an extern for a Federal Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Illinois. Eric also worked as a law clerk for the Northern Illinois University Office of General Counsel, where he helped to develop policies and bylaws for the University. He was also involved in a number of activities and associations. In addition to serving as a student representative for the NIU Academic Policies and Procedures Council, Eric was an active member of the Juvenile Law Society and the Trial Advocacy Board.

Eric, his fiancé, and their dog Paisley live in Freeport, Illinois. In his free time he enjoys golfing, cooking, kayaking, and taking on projects in and around his home and yard.
