About Brandon
Brandon is a defense litigation attorney who represents corporate and insurance entities in complex tort, general casualty, consumer, and class action matters. As a member of the defense litigation team in the San Francisco office, he develops strategic defenses throughout all phases of litigation—managing dispositive motions, discovery, court appearances, trial preparation, and risk assessments—to achieve favorable outcomes in high-exposure cases.
Brandon brings valuable trial-related insight from his previous legal roles. Before Hinshaw, he spent nearly two years at a Northern California defense firm, where he worked closely with two American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) partner attorneys, focusing on municipal liability and insurance defense matters and advocating effectively on behalf of his clients. He also completed a judicial externship at the Santa Clara County Superior Court under (Retired) Judge Socrates Peter Manoukian, gaining foundational experience in California Civil Procedure.

Selected matters handled prior to joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP:
- Assisted the trial defense team in securing a complete defense jury verdict in a state court case on behalf of a public entity and employee in a high-exposure, multimillion-dollar civil rights and fatal officer-involved shooting matter.
- Prepared a comprehensive defense mediation brief in a high-exposure auto-versus-bicycle personal injury action, analyzing complex neurological and psychiatric medical records to strategically counter and mitigate catastrophic damages claims in a multimillion-dollar case.
- Drafted the motion for summary judgment briefing in a federal civil rights matter serving as the primary author of the motion’s legal arguments and the subsequent reply brief regarding constitutional and state claims in an officer-involved shooting incident involving fast-moving tactical dynamics.
- Drafted the successful federal motion for summary judgment legal arguments and subsequent reply brief regarding constitutional and state claims, securing a total defense judgment at the district court level in a complex 5150 detention matter, currently pending on appeal.
- Prepared the central mediation brief and analyzed critical factual evidence under partner direction in a high-stakes Section 1983 D.U.I. checkpoint lawsuit, directly facilitating an advantageous pre-trial settlement.
- Formulated the principal mediation brief and analyzed critical factual evidence under partner direction in a complex prison custody death action in federal court, helping secure a successful pre-trial resolution.
