The U.S. law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners has recognized Hinshaw partner James W. Keeling by renaming Saturn Park to "Keeling Trailhead Park." The park stands along the Perryville Path Trail System.
In a press release, Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners President Scott Olson stated that "Jim has worked collaboratively and selflessly to improve the quality of life for all citizens, especially our youth and families." The release noted that Keeling's commitment to the Park District dated to 1990 when he initially proposed the Perryville Path, and he has since played an essential role in fundraising community developments, including a $2 million fundraising campaign for golf learning centers for youth. Keeling has volunteered as a Rockford Park District Foundation Board member for 15 years and acted as Foundation Board President from 2010 to 2011. Throughout his years of service, Keeling led efforts to fundraise more than $40 million.
"I am honored and humbled to get this recognition but none of what I have achieved has been done alone," said Keeling. "Connecting people and linking efforts and resources is what really has the power to make our community great. The men and women of the Rockford Park District provide the community with amazing assets, and I am proud to work alongside them for the benefit of the young people and families in our community."
Keeling was named the Rockford Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2011 and has received awards from various organizations including the Rockford Cosmopolitan Club, Boy Scouts of America, Illinois Park and Recreation Association, and the Illinois Association of Park Districts.
