The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is very pleased to announce that Raven Burke Mackey, an associate in the firm's Chicago office, has been selected by Just the Beginning – A Pipeline Organization (JTB-APO) to receive the "5 Under 40" award for legal professionals. The award recognizes individuals committed to increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal field, a central focus of JTB-APO's mission of encouraging underrepresented students to pursue law careers.
Mackey and all other honorees—including former Hinshaw partner Jennifer Ballard, as well as special awardees Chief Judge Ruben Castillo, Cook County State's Attorney Kimberly Foxx, and Attorney General-Elect Kwame Raoul—are scheduled to be recognized on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the 2018 Light the Spark Celebration. Partner Philip Kujawa will be accompanying Mackey at the event.
Mackey was nominated by the Black Women Lawyers' Association (BWLA), an organization she joined at the start of her legal career. As a BWLA member, she has served multiple terms as a Board-Member-at-Large on the Executive Board and also on the Scholarship Fund Board.
Mackey is a graduate of The University of Michigan Law School (J.D.) and Grinnell College (B.A.). She is admitted to practice in Illinois. In addition to her involvement with BWLA, Mackey is a leader in Hinshaw's efforts to promote diversity and inclusion and currently serves as co-chair of the firm's Black Attorney Affinity Network. She is also a member of the Federal Bar Association.
