Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that partner Ian Wagreich has been selected to receive the American Immigration Lawyers Association's Sam Williamson Mentor Award. The annual AILA award, established in 1992, recognizes one attorney for outstanding efforts and excellent counsel to immigration attorneys by providing mentoring assistance. The award was presented at the 2022 AILA Annual Conference, which celebrates the organization's 75th anniversary this year.
In a video-taped acceptance speech, Wagreich honored the many attorneys who helped mentor him as a young immigration lawyer. He noted that AILA members consist of immigration professionals who believe America is at its best and strongest when it is most welcoming. He expressed his hope that by helping mentor the next generation of immigration lawyers, he and AILA can help preserve the America that welcomed his Jewish grandfather—who emigrated to America as a young teenager—with love and new possibilities.
Wagreich is a highly experienced immigration law attorney and a passionate advocate for a more just and humane immigration system. Recognized as a leading voice in the area of immigration law nationwide, he frequently speaks about immigration issues at universities, continuing legal education seminars, and news media outlets. He received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, and a J.D. from Loyola University School of Law.
