The U.S. law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that Conrad Nowak, partner and chair of the firm's Veteran's Employee Resource Group (ERG), has been selected among the 2020 Notable Veteran Executives by Crain's Chicago Business. An experienced litigator, Nowak represents clients nationwide from a wide range of industries in complex litigation in various matters, including labor and employment, products liability, construction litigation, white collar criminal matters, federal investigations, and congressional inquiries. He also advises companies on commercial transactions and is lead litigation counsel for numerous construction companies.
"Conrad has been a tireless advocate for veterans, within Hinshaw and the legal community, promoting career opportunities and professional advancement," said Peter Sullivan, chairman of Hinshaw. "As the chair of our Veteran's ERG, he has a key role in developing and implementing firm programming to recruit, retain and advance the careers of our attorneys and staff members who have served in the military. His efforts extend far beyond the firm, as he works actively nationwide through various organizations to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of veterans' suicide and mental health treatment."
Nowak joined the U.S. Army after high school graduation, serving for nine years, including active, reserve and temporary duty service. He began his military service with the 13th Infantry Regiment, and was later proudly assigned to the 3rd BN, MID, 12th Special Forces Group (ABN), in a military intelligence role with a special operations team as a non-commissioned officer. After receiving his B.A. in history from DePaul University, he earned his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. While in law school, he was selected to participate in the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program for the sport of tennis.
Before joining Hinshaw, Nowak served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable William D. Maddux, Presiding Judge of the Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, and the Honorable Sharon Johnson Coleman.
"I am extremely honored to be nominated and selected for the Crain's Chicago 2020 Notable Veteran Executives," Nowak said. "As a veteran, I have great respect and appreciation for the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country in uniform. I also recognize the special needs of our community of veterans and the importance of giving back. I particularly appreciate the firm's support, through the Veteran's ERG, which gives me the opportunity to support our own veterans, who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and insights that are beneficial to the workplace and to our clients."
