Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Ambrose McCall has been named Peoria County Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by the Peoria County Bar Association. McCall was honored—along with other attorneys receiving recognition for their commitment to pro bono—at a Celebrate Pro Bono reception hosted by the Tenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee on October 23, 2017. Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride served as keynote speaker. The event was co-sponsored by The Legal Services Division of Caterpillar, Inc., the Peoria County Bar Association, Prairie State Legal Services, Inc., Public Interest Law Initiative, and the Tazewell County Bar Association.
McCall has worked on a number of pro bono cases in recent years, including landlord-tenant cases referred to him by Prairie State Legal Services. The pro bono case featured in his introduction at the Celebrate Pro Bono awards ceremony involved his representation of a plaintiff whose partner had executed a quit claim deed allegedly bearing the signature of his pro bono client. McCall investigated and filed a lawsuit against the co-owner transferor and the notary public. After McCall obtained a sworn statement from one of the witnesses on the quit claim deed who denied witnessing the transaction, the transferor and notary public defendants paid $15,000 to settle the claims of the pro bono plaintiff.
McCall advises clients on a range of employment issues, including regulatory, compliance and employee program matters. He represents clients in commercial litigation, real estate litigation, and construction litigation matters. He also defends clients against claims of professional liability, employment discrimination, and civil rights.
McCall received a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University and a B.A. from Indiana University. He is admitted to practice in Illinois.
