In this New Year episode of the Hinshaw Insurance Law Radio podcast, host Scott M. Seaman, a Chicago-based partner and co-chair of the national Insurance & Reinsurance Services group, talks with Jeff Sistrunk, senior insurance reporter for Law360, about some of the key insurance coverage decisions that took place in 2017.
Jeff and Scott begin by reviewing the decisions Jeff covered in his article "The 5 Biggest Insurance Decisions Of 2017." Those cases are Xia v. ProBuilders Specialty Insurance Co., Rancosky v. Washington National Insurance Co., Harleysville Group Insurance v. Heritage Communities Inc., General Refractories Co. v. First State Insurance Co., and Travelers v. Actavis.
Next, they review a case that Scott highlighted: Global Reinsurance Corp. v. Century Indemnity Co.—a New York Court of Appeals certified decision that dealt a blow to the Bellefonte cap that has served as "a star to steer by" for many courts over the past quarter of a century.
