The U.S. law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Raven Burke Mackey of its Chicago office received an exemplary service award from the Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. The award was issued at BWLA's 2017-2018 Board Investiture Ceremony, where Mackey was installed on the organization's Scholarship Fund Board. The award was given in recognition for Mackey's contributions and extraordinary dedication to the organization and its mission over the past 2016-2017 bar year, as well as her efforts in helping organize BWLA's 2017 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers, a three-day summit and celebration of the organization's 30th anniversary with close to 1,000 attendees.
BWLA is a bar association established for African-American female attorneys, judges, law professors and law students in the Chicago metropolitan area and across the Midwest. It provides a series of educational programs, mentoring/networking opportunities, community outreach, and scholarship awards to law students along with various educational pipeline programs and initiatives. The organization's very first meeting was held in the basement of the Chicago Carson Pirie Scott department store back in 1987. It has since grown its membership to approximately 300 members.
Mackey has been a member of BWLA since the start of her legal career, served the past two years as Board-Member-at-Large on the Executive Board, and is currently serving on BWLA's Scholarship Fund Board.
Hinshaw has a longstanding commitment to ensuring that the firm reflects the diversity of the world in which its lawyers practice. The firm encourages its diverse (ethnic/racial minorities, female and/or LGBTQ) attorneys to participate in organizations and associations that enhance their professional, civic and cultural development. Hinshaw believes that encouraging and supporting its attorneys in diversity efforts creates positive business, economic and social consequences for the firm and the communities it serves.
