Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that S. Sherry Xia has joined the firm's consumer financial services practice in New York. An experienced litigator, Xia brings a combination of previous in-house and private law experience and a strong track record of successfully resolving matters for her clients through all stages of litigation, including trial and appeal.
Xia was formerly Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at First Republic Bank, now part of JP Morgan Chase.
"With Sherry's experience as in-house counsel, she brings a keen insight into the business realities and goals of our clients, as well as stakeholder concerns," said Schuyler B. Kraus, partner-in-charge of the New York office. "Financial services companies continue to face increased litigation and compliance risks. We are delighted that Sherry has joined our team."
Xia represents financial services institutions in private mediation and litigation matters in state and federal courts, taking matters through to trial and appeals when necessary. She routinely handles complex commercial and consumer disputes on behalf of major institutions and counsels clients on pre-litigation exposure.
Hinshaw's national geographic footprint, industry-leading financial services team, and a broad array of clients were among the reasons she decided to join the firm.
"Hinshaw offers me an excellent platform to return to private practice," Xia said. "The firm has a highly regarded and deep bench of attorneys, along with a coast-to-coast financial services practice. I look forward to working with the group and building my practice."
Prior to her role at First Republic Bank, Xia practiced at Akerman LLP. She received her B.S. in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law.
