The U.S. law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is delighted to announce that Brian McGrath—Hinshaw partner and co-chair of the firm's Consumer Financial Services Practice Group—has been selected by Crain's New York Business as a 2022 Notable Diverse Leader in Law.
McGrath is one of eighty lawyers hailing from New York City and nearby counties to receive recognition. Every year, Crain's identifies a select group of professionals who "stand out" for their counseling and pro bono work, along with a demonstrated "commitment to community service, philanthropy, professional mentorship, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives."
McGrath is a dedicated advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and is consistently at the forefront of significant issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. He has served in leadership roles for the NYC Bar LGBTQ Rights Committee and is a member of the Human Rights Campaign Federal Club Council. In addition to managing a high-volume litigation practice before state and federal courts, McGrath has provided hundreds of hours of pro bono legal guidance handling LGBTQ matters for the ACLU-HIV/AIDS Project, Lambda Legal, and others.
Prior to joining Hinshaw, McGrath helped establish a law office comprising more than seventy percent of racial, LGBTQ, and/or gender diverse attorneys as a managing partner of his firm's New York office.
McGrath's practice focuses on serving a wide range of clients in the financial services industry, routinely representing financial services companies nationwide in class actions, conducting second opinion reviews, and providing general strategic advice.
In addition, McGrath is a recognized thought leader on state and federal financial services laws, and an important legal resource to the New York Mortgage Bankers Association, where he serves on the mortgage servicing committee.
McGrath was selected as a Fellow to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) in 2018-2019. He remains an active member of its Alumni Association, currently serving as the Greater New York area Alumni chair and as the co-chair of Hinshaw's LCLD committee. He also serves on the boards of the Development Authority of the North Country, SUNY Oswego College Council, and the Lewis County Health Systems Foundation.
