Royal F. Oakes a Los Angeles-based partner in the Business Litigation group at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, was quoted in article "Legal Quarterbacks Ready for California Super Bowl," which was published in the February 5, 2016, issue of Daily Journal. The article addresses the significant and varied amount of legal work that goes into organizing a large sporting event like the Super Bowl.
One major area of focus of that legal work is insurance. Said Mr. Oakes, "the event will have the types of insurance you'd expect from any large scale event, like general liability, commercial auto, worker's compensation, or event cancellation insurance." He added that "the sheer size of the Super Bowl requires more niche insurances as well, like morality coverage should the event suffer loss as a result of a spokesperson or entertainer working in connection with the event being arrested. With an event of this scale, terrorism is an obvious concern, requiring terrorism insurance."
Mr. Oakes has extensive trial and appellate practice in the fields of insurance, employment and general business law. He has litigated hundreds of cases in the areas of bad faith law and unfair business practices.
