Insurers May Have Already Won COVID-19 Coverage Fight

Hinshaw attorney Scott Seaman, a Chicago-based partner and co-chair of the firm's global Insurance Services Practice Group, was quoted by Evan Weinberger of Bloomberg Law in an article titled, "Insurers May Have Already Won Covid-19 Coverage Fight." The article discusses state legislative efforts to force insurers retroactively to cover businesses hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.
Seaman said that "the more time that passes without bills going forward, the more cooler heads will prevail." Insurers have argued that forcing them to pay out claims for events they did not charge premiums for could lead to a wave of insolvencies in the industry.
