Hinshaw partner Gretchen Harris Sperry—chair of Hinshaw's appellate practice group—and fellow partner William Hardy have authored chapters in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) handbook titled Civil Appeals: State and Federal 2022 Edition. IICLE is the premier provider of continuing legal education in Illinois. Founded in 1961, the Institute publishes a comprehensive set of handbooks designed by and for Illinois attorneys.
The Civil Appeals handbook details the civil appeals procedure from start to finish, with discussions on every aspect of the process. Sperry authored four chapters titled "Preserving Error for Review in Illinois Trial Proceedings," "Record on Appeal," "Motion Practice," and "The Appendix." Hardy's chapter is titled "Appeals from Final Judgments That Do Not Dispose of an Entire Proceeding: Illinois Supreme Court Rule 304 and Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 54(b)g." Sperry and Hardy are both past Presidents of the Appellate Lawyers Association.
