Hinshaw Partner Esther Seitz recently co-authored a chapter in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) "Sunshine Laws 2024 Edition" handbook. IICLE is the premier provider of continuing legal education in Illinois. Founded in 1961, the Institute publishes a comprehensive set of handbooks designed by and for Illinois attorneys.
Seitz co-wrote the handbook's fifth chapter titled "Enforcement Under the Freedom of Information Act," which explains how private citizens and businesses can enforce their rights to public records through the Illinois court system or the Illinois Attorney General's administrative process.
The Act creates transparency in government by compelling all public entities in Illinois, including the State and cities, to make their records available upon request unless those records qualify for an exemption.
