Liljestrand, a Chicago-based partner in the Product Liability practice area at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, authored the article, "Court Finds Merit In 'Zone of Risk' Asbestos Exposures For Nonworkers," published by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin on March 7, 2016. This article is part of Mr. Liljestrand's monthly column with the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin "Toxic Tort Talk."
The article examines the court case Boyer v. Weyerhaeuser Co., 2016 WL 705233 (W.DWlS. 2016) where a federal court in Wisconsin recently held that certain Plaintiffs' non-occupational asbestos exposures were a substantial factor in producing their respective diseases, as long as they resided in the "zone of risk" for a defined period of time. In the article, Mr. Liljestrand explains that the court allowed an expert opinion testimony on causation for those plaintiffs living in their homes for at least one year and within 1.25 miles of the plant where asbestos was being used.
