Anthony E. Davis was profiled in NYU Law News as New York University School of Law’s Alumnus of the Month for December 2011. The article, titled “Alumnus of the Month December 2011,” appears in the December 2011, issue of the publication.
The article discusses the path that Mr. Davis took that ultimately led him a practice in which he represents lawyers and law firms in ethics and professional responsibility matters. Other topics addressed include the challenges of representing lawyers, and major competitive disadvantages facing the American legal profession. Says Mr. Davis in the article, “. . . my energy is focused on getting the American profession—and particularly the large firms—to establish a collective voice to grapple with the fact that the 50-state, multi-agency regulatory system that governs lawyers only made sense when the fastest mode of communication was on the back of a horse. That system does not work in the Web 2.0 world, and it is putting American lawyers at a global competitive disadvantage. . . . The chief reason is that lawyers in America are not allowed to practice in states where they are not admitted to the bar. As a result, clients often have to hire multiple lawyers in multiple states.”
Mr. Davis, who earned an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1971, is a member of Hinshaw’s Lawyers for the Profession® practice group. His practice focuses on the laws that govern lawyers. Mr. Davis advises attorneys and law firms on legal professional and ethics issues, law firm creation, merger and dissolution, risk management and loss control.
