Hinshaw Attorneys to Present at 2019 LeadingAge Illinois Annual Meeting and Expo

A group of Hinshaw partners—David Alfini, Aimee Delaney, and Adam Guetzow—will present at the 2019 LeadingAge Illinois Annual Meeting and Expo, scheduled for April 2 – 4 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. The seminar is intended to help participants in the adult life services industry connect, recharge, re-energize their passion for the industry, and focus on the future of care. A variety of educational sessions will be available as part of the annual event, including five by Alfini, Delaney, and Guetzow.
A summary of the trio's presentations follows below.
Difficult Conversations: Proactive Strategies for Minimizing Legal Risk During Conflicts with Resident Family Members
Alfini and Guetzow will provide attendees with best practices, including how to distinguish difficult situations and difficult people, and how both can be managed through effective communication. They will also discuss strategies for avoiding the legal risks often associated with involuntary discharges.
Legal Implications from New Technology in the Homecare Setting
Presented by Alfini, Delaney, and Guetzow, this session will explore necessary policies and procedures for agencies implementing the use of ride share services for client transportation. The trio will also provide tips for caregiver training relative to social media use and potential transmission of client sensitive information via electronic modes of communication.
Joint Employers, Misclassification, and Other Trending Risks for the Long-Term Care Employer
In this presentation, Alfini, Delaney, and Guetzow will review the ongoing and recent changes and approaches to the joint employer doctrine. Other topics of discussion include the legal risks associated with employee misclassification and how to comply with the recent changes in Illinois law concerning the employer employee relationship.
LGBTQ Residents and Employees in Long-Term Care: Challenges and Opportunities
Alfini, Delaney, and Guetzow will talk numbers and breakdown the LGBTQ presence of employees and residents in long-term care. As part of their presentation, they will help attendees learn how to not only recognize challenges, but develop policies and procedures to address them.
What Keeps Employers Up at Night? A Wage and Hour Review for the Home Care Provider
In her presentation, Delaney will address general wage and hour risks and how to avoid them, focusing on those specific to the home care environment.
