Matthew Novaria represents insurers in complex coverage matters and litigation in state and federal forums nationwide, focusing on claims arising under general liability, excess and umbrella liability, employer's liability, and D&O insurance policies. He has extensive experience analyzing complex issues arising out of catastrophic losses, including mass shootings, environmental contamination at EPA Superfund sites, class actions alleging defective or dangerous products, and constitutional and civil rights claims. Matt also helps insurers navigate the claims-handling process, finding creative ways to minimize exposure and avoid bad faith and extra contractual liability.

Before joining Hinshaw, Matt furthered his insurance and complex litigation experience with a Chicago-based firm. He also worked for a national law firm, evaluating healthcare industry risks—including medical malpractice and employment-related exposures—for London and Bermuda market insurers.

During law school, Matt was a legal intern for the Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Park District. During his tenure, he focused on tort, employment, and property disputes. He also interned for the Honorable Amy J. St. Eve in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

As a student, Matt was involved in a number of activities and associations. An active member of the DePaul Law Review, he also served as the publication's managing editor.
