David Astengo has represented and advised both insurers and insureds concerning numerous insurance coverage issues and disputes in California, Nevada, and Arizona, including inter-carrier disputes and claims for bad faith. Armed with extensive civil litigation experience in both state and federal courts, David is able to partner with his clients to provide them with strategic, tailored solutions for their legal problems.
Over the course of his career, David has advised both insurers and insureds and handled countless complex insurance coverage litigation matters. His background includes preparing coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters, as well as managing, defending, and prosecuting declaratory relief, contribution, indemnity and bad faith claims.
Before joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, David practiced at firms throughout California. Most recently, he worked in the San Francisco office of a Los Angeles-based firm. After completing law school, David was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Merlyn H. Hoyt, Seventh Judicial District Court of Nevada. While still a student, he worked as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Barry S. Schaller, Connecticut Appellate Court and the Honorable Dominic J. Squatrito, U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
In addition to his other academic accomplishments and activities during law school, David wrote for the University of Connecticut International Law Journal. He also served as an Associate Editor for the publication.
