Alison Shilling defends the interests of businesses and individuals in litigation. She has extensive experience advising on matters involving reinsurance and insurance treaties and contracts, both domestically and internationally.

Over the course of her career—which spans more than 15 years—Alison has not only handled litigation, but also arbitration. Her clients appreciate that she is both a tenacious advocate and a master negotiator, focused on providing solutions tailored to their situation and goals.

Before joining Hinshaw Alison was Assistant Claims Counsel for a reinsurance company in Stamford, Connecticut. In her role, Alison managed all aspects of litigation and arbitration, from initiating and defending to negotiating with adversaries and overseeing discovery and the selection and preparation of witnesses.

Alison's background also includes nearly a decade of private practice with firms in New York. Each of these positions provided a significant foundation for her litigation skills, as she handled complex commercial litigation, including insurance and reinsurance and insurance coverage matters, as well as product liability and environmental contamination disputes.


A lover of adventure, staying active, and travelling, Alison completed the Chicago Marathon in 2009 and the New York City Marathon in 2011. She also hiked to the base camp of Mount Everest in 2010.
