Ruddy S. Abam

Ruddy Abam represents clients in business and financial services litigation. She defends debt collection agencies, debt buyers, and other consumer-facing clients in legal actions involving a diverse array of state and federal consumer laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and class action claims.

Ruddy engages in all stages of the litigation process. She also represents businesses in addressing civil investigative demands, subpoenas, and matters initiated by state government institutions. Similarly, she handles government regulatory efforts related to client experiences—including city and state compliance requirements.

Prior to joining Hinshaw as an associate, Ruddy was a law clerk and summer associate with the firm.

While a law student, Ruddy was a senior student attorney with Loyola’s Community Law Center Clinic, representing clients at hearings as guardian ad litem. She also assisted with various legal matters as an in-house intern for a communications company and a consulting group, developing non-disclosure agreement guidelines and acquisition contract reviews.

Ruddy was also involved in a number of activities and associations as a student. In addition to serving as the director of Diversity & Inclusion for the Cultural Impact Initiative Organization, she was a member of the Black Law Students Association and the Public Interest Law Society. Ruddy was also a global shaper and a curator for the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Community.

Prior to starting her legal career, Ruddy served as an intern in the Office of former Alaska U.S. Senator Mark Begich.

Born and raised in Cameroon, West Africa, Ruddy immigrated to Alaska where she completed her undergraduate education prior to starting law school in Chicago. She continues to mentor minority legal scholars on applying to law school and passing the bar exam.
