Sam Sorich and Larry Golub Discuss California's Post-Wildfire Insurance Laws in Law360 Expert Analysis

October 10, 2018

Sacramento-based insurance regulatory consultant Sam Sorich and Los Angeles-based partner Larry Golub of Hinshaw published an article in Law360 on October 4, entitled "11 New Insurance Laws After California Wildfires." In their article, Sorich and Golub discuss some of the legislative proposals in the California Legislature that followed the catastrophic 2017‒2018 season of wildfires and mudslides, and then summarized the 11 "noteworthy bills" that were signed into law in September.

Sorich and Golub explain that although extreme proposals were rejected, the bills that were ultimately passed and signed into law this year are still "broad-based and will require California homeowners insurers to change their contracts, their disclosures, and their claims and underwriting practices."
