Gretchen Harris Sperry Featured in Women's Bar Association of Illinois' "Member Monday" Profile
Gretchen Harris Sperry, a Chicago-based partner in the Government Practice at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, was featured in the Women's Bar Association of Illinois' (WBAI's) inaugural "Member Monday" profile on September 19, 2016. The weekly "Member Monday" profiles will highlight a different WBAI member each week to recognize and celebrate association members and their work. Ms. Sperry's profile follows:
Member Monday Profile: Gretchen Harris Sperry
My practice involves all things law, politics and government. I represent public officials and the people who interface with them, in constitutional litigation, white collar criminal defense and investigations, and regulatory and compliance matters. My practice also involves critical motion practice and appeals.
Why did you join the WBAI?
I joined the WBAI in 2010 while I was clerking for Justice Mary Jane Theis. She inspired me to be an active participant in the legal community, not only for my own professional development, but also to support the important services that bar associations provide, like CLE programming, mentorship, and judicial evaluations, all of which the WBAI does well. In my experience, the WBAI also provides the best opportunities for young lawyers to work their way up the leadership ranks of the organization and meet interesting and influential people along the way.
What are you most looking forward to this fall?
On a professional level, I am looking forward to the Top Women Lawyers in Leadership (TWLIL) event this fall. While the Judicial Reception in the spring is far and away my favorite WBAI event, I like the TWLIL event because it highlights the professional accomplishments of women lawyers and particularly their efforts to reach back and help other women lawyers succeed. On a personal level, my 7-year old joined Fall Baseball and Soccer leagues for the first time this year, so I am looking forward to cheering him on from the sidelines, apple cider in hand.
Tell us a fun fact about you.
I am a mountain climber and have trekked across mountain ranges in the U.S., Europe and Africa.
