Natasha Steele Patel focuses her practice primarily in professional liability defense, with particular emphasis on medical malpractice claims against health care providers. Her clients primarily include physicians, resident physicians, nurses, hospitals, clinics, and other health care institutions. She represents her clients through all stages of litigation from the discovery phase through trial. Ms. Patel also has significant experience in complex institutional discovery of large healthcare systems. She is also knowledgeable regarding the complexities of discovery with electronic medical records.

In addition to her professional liability practice, Ms. Patel also has experience in general practice, including commercial collections, labor and employment matters, estate planning, and family law.

Professional Background

Ms. Patel first joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in April 2013 in the Peoria, Illinois office. Prior to moving to Peoria, she was an associate at Aplington, Kaufman, McClintock, Steele & Barry, in LaSalle, Illinois, where she grew up. Ms. Patel relocated to the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in June 2017. She continues to practice in Central Illinois, but has also expanded her practice to serve clients in Northern Illinois and the Chicagoland area.

During law school, Ms. Patel served a series of internships, with the Chicago Transit Authority, where she worked as a 711 intern; and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where she clerked for an Administrative Law Judge.

In addition to her other law school accomplishments, Ms. Patel was a member of the Trial Advocacy Competition Team and served on the Executive Board of the Multicultural Law Student Association.

In addition to her law degree, Ms. Patel earned a master's degree in psychology.
