Representative Matters

Kevin Abbott focuses his practice in the area of health care law, with a particular emphasis in medical malpractice defense litigation. Kevin handles all aspects of litigation including preparing witnesses, taking and defending depositions, dispositive motions and jury selection. He has advised hospital and insurer clients on a variety of matters including Peer Review and Medical Studies Act compliance, Policy and Procedure language, HIPAA compliance and responses to potential violations, and third-party subpoena issues.

Professional Background

Prior to joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, Kevin practiced for over six years at a medical malpractice firm in Rockford, Illinois. He also gained valuable experience working as a law clerk with two accomplished Chicago-based plaintiff's medical malpractice firms.

While attending law school, Kevin took advantage of extern opportunities in Chicago and spent a summer as an intern for the American Medical Association and their Counsel on Ethical and Judicial Affairs. Additionally, he received CALI Awards for the highest grade in Corporate Finance, Commercial Arbitration and Legal Profession and was on the Dean's List each semester.

Representative Matters

  • Medical Malpractice Litigation: Kevin co-tried a birth injury case in 2017 involving claims of brachial plexus palsy and cognitive injuries. He defended a hospital, its employed nurses and an apparent agency claim against an obstetrician. Verdict was for the defense.


Like most Midwesterners, Kevin enjoys hockey. When weather permits, he likes golfing, canoeing, and hiking. Kevin also enjoys reading, cooking and traveling.
