Sean Pon focuses his litigation practice in the areas of general liability disputes, commercial litigation, construction litigation, transportation litigation, retail and hospitality litigation and employment litigation.
Mr. Pon has a broad litigation background and has experience in trademark, real estate, contract, tax, probate, professional liability, legal malpractice defense, tort and other general civil litigation. He is also familiar with secured and business transactions.
While a law clerk with the Pacific Legal Foundation, Mr. Pon accomplished significant research and drafted memoranda regarding the Endangered Species Act. In addition, he conducted amicus curiae brief research for U.S. Supreme Court cases that included:
- Elk Grove School District v. Newdow – a Pledge of Allegiance case.
- Guinn v. Legislature of the State of Nevada.
Mr. Pon returned to Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in September 2009 after a short time at Law & Brandmeyer, in Pasadena, California. He joined Hinshaw originally in July 2006. Previously he was an attorney with the Law Office of Lawrence M. Markey, Jr., in El Segundo, California. He also spent a short time as an attorney with Ku & Fong LLP, in Los Angeles.
During law school, Mr. Pon clerked with Bosso, Williams, Sachs, Atack & Gallagher, in Santa Cruz. He also clerked for one summer at the Pacific Legal Foundation in Sacramento. He was a member of a number of student organizations, including Moot Court, Entertainment and Sports Law Association, Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and La Raza Law Student Association. In addition, he was a member and Treasurer of Phi Delta Phi.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Pon was an auditor and credit analyst for a year with First Collateral Services/Citigroup. During his undergraduate studies, he interned with KTVU Fox in Oakland, California, where he edited news scripts and researched news stories.
During his undergraduate studies Mr. Pon was a member of the Dean’s List.
Mr. Pon is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.
Mr. Pon is a regular contributor to a number of Hinshaw publications, including labor and employment and California employment client alerts, and the
Employment Practices Alert newsletter.
Mr. Pon has been a volunteer with Junior Giants, the San Francisco Giants’ children’s summer baseball league. He has also volunteered at Dixon High School, where he taught remedial English.
Sean enjoys baseball and football. He is an avid San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers fan. Additionally, he currently plays in a fast-pitch baseball league, in which his team was the league champion in 2008 and he was the voted MVP of the league in 2007.
