Chicago, January 5, 2005 – Robert M. Konop, former Vice President-Associate General Counsel of the CUNA Mutual Group in Madison, Wisconsin, has joined the Chicago office of national law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as a partner. After 28 years of service to the insurance company, Mr. Konop will become a member of the firm’s business litigation practice, with a focus on fidelity insurance law.

Mr. Konop has been the lead counsel to the credit union protection division of CUNA Mutual, which provides coverage that protects the assets of approximately 95 percent of all credit unions. In that role, he was a member of the division's leadership team, providing business advice and legal services to the division. He previously was head of the litigation unit.
Mr. Konop is known in credit union circles for his experience in the areas of fidelity bond, director’s liability, and employment practices insurance and litigation. He has been a frequent speaker to national as well as state credit union groups on these and other credit union law topics.
Mr. Konop brings to Hinshaw extensive corporate in-house experience in litigation management, claims, underwriting and risk management, and a wealth of experience in the financial institution insurance field. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Tort and Insurance Practice, the ABA Fidelity and Surety subcommittee, the Defense Research Institute and the Wisconsin Bar Association. He received his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1969, and his J.D. from University of Wisconsin Law School, Madison, in1973.
