Purdom and Zeeck Recover "Not Guilty" Verdict in $10 Million Mortgage Loan Fraud Case

CHICAGO ― In a federal criminal case arising out of an alleged $10 million mortgage loan fraud scheme, Daniel M. Purdom, a Partner in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, and Brian R. Zeeck, an associate in the firm’s Lisle, Illinois, office represented the president/co-owner of a real estate development company who was also the attorney for a developer. The indictment named 13 individuals and various corporate entities in all. All defendants other than Hinshaw’s client pleaded guilty; many of them cooperated against our client. The trial ultimately resulted in a hung jury. On March 11, 2011, the case was re-tried in a bench trial in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the parties having stipulated to the previous jury trial. A verdict of not guilty was subsequently rendered.
