Steven M. Puiszis, a Partner in the
Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected as a National Director for the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and will serve on the organization’s Board of Directors. Mr. Puiszis was also appointed to serve on DRI’s Amicus Committee, and currently serves as the chair of DRI’s Judicial Task Force, which addresses challenges to judicial independence.
DRI, which includes more than 22,000 members, is a national organization of defense attorneys and corporate counsel that serves as the voice of the defense bar nationally and in Europe. In his role as a National Director, Mr. Puiszis will work to help the organization advance the interests of the business community in the defense of civil litigation. As a member of DRI’s Amicus Committee, Mr. Puiszis will be part of a group that reviews requests to DRI to file amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs in cases of significant interest.
Mr. Puiszis is a well-known and highly experienced trial attorney. A large focus of his practice involves municipal and civil rights litigation. He has handled a variety of claims in state and federal court on behalf of many units of state and local government. He also represents clients in class action, commercial, and products liability litigation as well as in professional liability matters.
Mr. Puiszis is a thought leader in the area of e-discovery. He is a member of the Seventh Circuit’s Electronic Discovery Pilot Program Committee, which is at the forefront of change in this area. Mr. Puiszis established and serves as editor-in-chief of Hinshaw’s “Practical Ediscovery” blog (
www.practicalediscovery.com), which tracks developments in the law concerning the preservation, production and use of electronically stored information. He is also the author of Illinois Governmental Tort and Section 1983 Civil Rights Liability, published by Lexis Publishing.
