CHICAGO ― Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced today that Yano Rubinstein has joined the firm as a partner in its San Francisco office, where he will lead the firm’s California Intellectual Property Practice, counseling clients on a variety of complex patent, trademark, and copyright matters.
Mr. Rubinstein comes to Hinshaw from Rubinstein Law Group, P.C., in San Francisco, where he served as the founding principal, focusing his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law. His clients range from local to international in scope, including a host of uniquely successful organizations in the fields of technology, art and culture, entertainment, publishing, wineries, retail, entertainment venues and sports.
As head of Hinshaw’s California IP practice, he will continue counseling clients in complex IP-related matters including intellectual property acquisitions and procurements, licensing, clearance and royalty provisions; and managing global intellectual property portfolios. He has extensive experience in cancellation and opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, domain name disputes under the Uniform Domain Name Resolution Policy, and right of publicity and unfair competition claims.
“Intellectual Property is an evolving area of law, driven by worldwide business expansion and new technologies that demand updated regulations and modern legal interpretations,” said Robert J. Romero, Partner-in-Charge of Hinshaw’s San Francisco office and member of the firm’s Management Committee. “We’re seeing an increased need from our client base in California and nationwide, to keep up with the expanding base of IP law, affecting the viability of businesses big and small, across every sector,” he said. “Yano brings an impressive scope of IP capabilities, as well as entrepreneurial know-how and a strong leadership skill set that will enable further growth in California to serve our clients’ existing and emerging IP needs.”
Prior to founding Rubinstein Law Group in 2005, Mr. Rubinstein practiced with Oppenheimer, Wolff and Donnelley LLP, and Perkins Coie LLP. He earned his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1999, and his B.A. from the University of California at San Diego in 1995. He is a member of the Intellectual Property and Litigation sections of the California State Bar, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association.
Also an advocate for providing pro bono services to those in need within his community, Mr. Rubinstein serves as general counsel for the Kerosene Lamp Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by professional NBA player Adonal Foyle, which promotes education and health awareness for children.
