Judith A. Parker, an attorney in the
Portland,
Oregon office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP has been appointed by the Oregon Senate to serve on the Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs. Appointees to the Commission serve a three-year term.
The commission’s mission is to work toward economic, social, political and legal equality for Oregon´s Hispanic population. The commission’s responsibilities include: (1) monitoring existing programs and legislation designed to meet the needs of Oregon’s Hispanic population; (2) identifying and researching problem areas and issues affecting the Hispanic community and recommending actions to the governor and the legislative assembly, including recommendations on legislative programs; (3) maintaining a liaison between the Hispanic community and government entities; and (4) encouraging Hispanic representation on state boards and commissions.
Ms. Parker focuses her practice in the area of
professional liability defense and
labor and employment law. In 2009, she was named to the
Rising Stars list in the area of Employment & Labor by
Oregon Super Lawyers & Rising Stars magazine.
Ms. Parker is a member of the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association, has served as the organization’s secretary and president in 2009, and is a member of its board of directors. She is also a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
Prior to her legal career, Ms. Parker worked for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service) as a district adjudication officer. Before that, she was an immigration caseworker and congressional speechwriter for former U.S. Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-Oregon, Fifth District).
