Michael D. Seese

Practice Focus
Michael Seese represents debtors and other parties in interest in proceedings under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code and out-of-court workouts. Mr. Seese also represents parties in acquiring assets and businesses of out of bankruptcy proceedings and has extensive litigation experience in adversary and other contested proceedings in bankruptcy.
Representative Cases
Some of Mr. Seese’s more notable engagements include representing a large time share resort as a debtor in a successful Chapter 11 reorganization and one of the largest providers of heavy equipment to the construction industry in the southeastern United States as a debtor in a Chapter 11 proceeding involving the sale of substantially all of the assets to a newly formed entity capitalized by a large private equity group. He previously represented an international air cargo carrier in its successful Chapter 11 reorganization, and represented the creditors’ committee in a case involving one of the largest producers of aluminum in North America. Mr. Seese also served as lead counsel on behalf of the debtor/seller – a billion dollar producer of steel and tin mill products – in successfully litigating the sale of substantially all of the debtor’s assets.
Professional Background
Mr. Seese joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in May 2009. Previously he was a partner in a regional firm in Miami, Florida, where he co-founded its distressed asset group and served as co-chair of its bankruptcy practice. He is also a former partner in the bankruptcy group of a large national law firm.

Mr. Seese holds the AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for ethics and legal ability. He has been named to the Super Lawyers list by Florida Super Lawyers magazine (and its corporate counsel edition) annually since 2006, and was named as one of Florida Trend magazine’s “Florida Legal Elite” in 2007 and 2009 and its corporate counsel edition in 2009. Mr. Seese has also been included in the “Leading Lawyers for Business” section of “Chambers & Partners USA Guide” annually since 2007, and has been “recommended” for Restructuring & Insolvency in the “Cross-Border Restructuring & Insolvency Handbook,” published by the Practical Law Company, annually since 2007.

In 2011, Mr. Seese was one of only 25 attorneys to be named a “Key Partner” by the South Florida Business Journal (SFBJ).
