CHICAGO ― Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP Chairman
Donald L. Mrozek has been honored with DePaul University Law School’s Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest alumnus award given by the school. He accepted the honor at a celebratory dinner on March 4 at Chicago’s Blackstone Hotel.
“I’m greatly flattered to receive this award,” said Mr. Mrozek, “As Chairman of Hinshaw for over 20 years, it’s a lifetime professional goal to make a lasting positive impact within the legal industry and our community.”
Mr. Mrozek, 62, earned his J.D.,
cum laude, from DePaul University, and joined Hinshaw as an associate in 1973. He has served consecutive terms as Hinshaw’s Chairman since 1989, leading and managing approximately 500 lawyers in 24 offices nationwide, and chairing the Management and Executive Committees. Hinshaw, which marked its 75th Anniversary last year, has realized steady growth in revenue and profit during Mr. Mrozek’s 20-plus years of leadership. The firm has also made strides in achieving the goals set forth in its strategic plan – most notably including establishing a national presence; expanding its business practice; focusing on diversity and inclusion; and attracting high-value matters.

Mr. Mrozek has been consistently recognized for both his leadership contributions and his legal practice over the length of his professional career. In January 2009, he was profiled as the subject of “Don Mrozek – Champion for His Firm and His Community,” an article in the Business Edition of
Leading Lawyers Network Magazine. He was also selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Commercial Litigation and Insurance / Insurance Coverage; and named as one of the top 100 Leading Lawyers in Illinois in all areas of law. He was honored as one of the Top 100 Business Lawyers in Illinois, and has been named annually to the
Super Lawyers list in the area of Business Litigation by
Illinois Super Lawyers magazine since 2005. Mr. Mrozek was named as one of "The Best of the Law Firm Leaders" by
Of Counsel in November 2002.
Among his numerous professional activities, Mr. Mrozek has served on the Advisory Council of DePaul University Law School since 1990, and also served as Vice Chairman of the DePaul University Cornerstone Campaign: Law School Division in 1992. In 2009, Mr. Mrozek was honored as the recipient of the DePaul Law Review Sapientia Award.
He has served as Vice Chair of the Fidelity and Surety Committee of the American Bar Association; Vice Chair of the Fidelity and Surety Committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel; Chair of the Business Litigation Committee for the International Association of Defense Counsel; and Chair of the Defense Research Institute's Professional Liability Committee. He is a member and Past President (2006-2007) of the Chicago Inn of Court. He received his B.S.E. from Northwestern University in 1969.
