Miami Attorney Paul R. Wallace Nominated to Serve on the South Florida Regional Planning Counsel

Florida Governor Jeb Bush has nominated Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP attorney Paul R. Wallace to serve on the South Florida Regional Planning Council (Region 11). Pending confirmation from the senate, Mr. Wallace will succeed William Kerdyk. His term would begin June 22, 2004, and end Oct. 1, 2006.

Paul Wallace’s wide-ranging practice encompasses government and administrative law; insurance contract, bad faith and coverage litigation; and civil rights/voting rights litigation. He joined Hinshaw's Miami office in January 2001. 

Mr. Wallace has held a number of governmental posts, including general counsel positions in both Florida state and federal government agencies. At the state level he served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce, acting as principal deputy and primary advisor to Governor (then Secretary of Commerce) Jeb Bush. His responsibilities encompassed responsibility as General Counsel for the Florida Department of Commerce and as General Counsel for the Division of Tourism, Division of Economic Development and Motion Picture Office.

Mr. Wallace also served as Counsel for Government Affairs and Executive Board member for the Beacon Council, Dade County’s official economic development agency.

Mr. Wallace was a senior attorney for the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), enforcing takeovers of terminating regulated pension plans, installing receiverships and representing the United States in negotiations on all legal aspects of plan insurance, terminations, and benefit payouts under ERISA. He also served as Counsel and Chief Legal Officer to the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission, the national administrative law tribunal that conducts hearings and decides contested cases under the Federal OSHA Act. In addition, Mr. Wallace was a national trial attorney for the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, litigating tax enforcement actions in federal courts nationwide.
