Mindy A. Ferrer
Mindy Ferrer has experience in workers' compensation defense matters. She focuses her practice in the representation of self-insured employers in workers' compensation defense matters. Ms. Ferrer also practices in the areas of immigration, labor and employment and commercial litigation. Her other areas of concentration include elder law, probate, guardianship and the preparation of wills, and revocable, irrevocable, special needs and charitable trusts.
Ms. Ferrer counsels on all areas of workers' compensation, including exposure claims and complex compensability disputes. She also advised corporate and individual clients in immigration matters involving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, from immigration petitions to audits and workplace investigations.
Ms. Ferrer joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in March 2002. Previously, she was a senior staff attorney and assistant legislative liaison for the Illinois Industrial Commission. In June 1997, Ms. Ferrer was appointed by Governor Jim Edgar as an arbitrator for the Illinois Industrial Commission until May 2000.
Ms. Ferrer has served as assistant comptroller for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington, D.C. In this role, she was responsible for managing individual, corporate, and political action committee contributions of all national political campaigns and federal election commission reports.
In 1990, Ms. Ferrer served as a part of an internship for the Internal Revenue Service, Chicago, Illinois, in the tax litigation division.
Ms. Ferrer is a 2011 candidate for an LL.M. in Elder Law at Stetson University College of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, The Florida Bar, American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
Ms. Ferrer has taught many seminars on workers’ compensation and related employment issues.
