Michael P. Davidson

Practice Focus
Michael Davidson devotes his practice to health care law. He represents health care providers such as health systems, hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and practitioners in their business and regulatory matters, with a focus on corporate and regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse, reimbursement, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, employment and medical staff issues, tax exemption and tax-exempt bond financing. In addition to his health care practice, Mr. Davidson also counsels businesses regarding corporate organization and governance.

Mr. Davidson has a substantial background in health care law research. He has contributed to scholarship on the historical development of statutory, regulatory and tort controls on human-subject medical research, as well as prosecutions of kickbacks, reciprocal arrangements and illegal gratuities as they relate to health care business transactions.
Professional Background
Mr. Davidson joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in August 2006.

During law school, Mr. Davidson served as a Faculty Fellow for Professor Jesse A. Goldner, for whom he researched and drafted articles and book chapters on diverse health law topics. He was also an intern for the Honorable James K. Donovan, of the Fifth Judicial District of the Appellate Court of Illinois.

In addition to his other law school accomplishments, Mr. Davidson was a recipient of the Irvin and Maggie Dagen Public Interest Fellowship, the Illinois Bar Foundation Scholarship and an Academic Excellence Award. He was the Treasurer of the Public Interest Law Group. During his undergraduate studies he was a member of the Dean’s List, a recipient of the Balfour Memorial Scholarship and a finalist in the Rhodes Scholarship Competition.

Prior to his legal career, Mr. Davidson administered national and international epidemiological health-outcomes research projects for a research organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Mr. Davidson’s professional memberships include the American Health Lawyers Association, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys and the Winnebago County Bar Association.

Mr. Davidson speaks German fluently.

Community Service Activities
Mr. Davidson serves on the Institutional Review Board of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center to help ensure the safety and privacy of those who participate as subjects in medical research. He is a member of the Board of Directors of River District Association, a charitable organization dedicated to the revitalization of Rockford's historic downtown.

During his tenure as a Faculty Fellow at Saint Louis University School of Law, Mr. Davidson assisted in founding the Children’s Health Advocacy Project, an initiative to improve low-income children’s health by including lawyers and law students in multi-disciplinary heath care teams in St. Louis children’s hospitals.
