Mike Berger focuses his litigation practice in complex business litigation, products liability defense and intellectual property matters.
A former scientist and engineer, who is admitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Berger manages all phases of litigation, from initial client interviews through discovery and trial. He also counsels clients on pre-litigation strategies and settlement options.
Some of Mr. Berger’s representative cases include:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN, et al., v. GlaxoSmithKline, P.L.C., 62-C8-06-002575 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2008). Represented insurers asserting anti-trust claims relating to drug marketing. Matter successfully resolved through mediation with a confidential settlement.
- Penwell v. Rust-Oleum Corp., 3:2006cv00337 (W.D.WI 2007). Represented coatings manufacturer in a products liability action. Matter successfully resolved at trial in federal court.
Mr. Berger joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in October 2009.
He began his legal career at Rider Bennett, LLP, where he was a litigation associate from 2005 until the firm dissolved in 2007. From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Berger was a litigation associate at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, LLP.
During law school, Mr. Berger was a patent law clerk at Brooks, Cameron & Huebsch, PLLC, and a research assistant in trademark law.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Berger was an environmental scientist at both Braun Intertec Corporation and AECOM (formerly STS Consultants, Ltd.), and a research scientist at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Mr. Berger was also a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and a Registered Microbiologist.
In 2011, Mr. Berger was selected for inclusion on the
Rising Stars list, published by
Minnesota Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Berger’s professional memberships include the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and the Federal Bar Association.
Mr. Berger participates in the Mentor Program for the University of St. Thomas Law School. He volunteers with William Mitchell College of Law’s Intellectual Property Moot Court.
Mike is a participating member in Loon State Cyclists, an organization that promotes bike racing and cycling in the Twin Cities.
