CHICAGO ―
David H. Levitt, a partner with the
Chicago law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected to a third term on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC). The IDC is the premiere association of attorneys in Illinois representing business, corporate, professionals, and other individual defendants in civil litigation. With nearly 1,000 members, the IDC is the voice of the defense bar in Illinois.
Mr. Levitt has already served six years as a director for the IDC. During his tenure, he has helped the association establish a stronger presence with the Illinois General Assembly. A key goal of the IDC is to level the playing field, so defendants receive fair and equal treatment in Illinois courts. In his new three year term as director, Mr. Levitt will work with the business, insurance, and medical communities in support of a fair and impartial civil justice system.
Mr. Levitt has been an active IDC member for more than a decade. He has authored amicus, or friend-of-the-court briefs, when cases pending before the state’s highest courts have threatened to further tilt the scales of justice against the rights of defendants. He has lectured on insurance issues at IDC continuing legal education seminars. He has authored numerous articles on legal issues. In 2003, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the IDC’s highly respected legal publication the
IDC Quarterly.
Mr. Levitt is recognized as one of the top insurance coverage attorneys in the nation. His peers have ranked him as a Leading Lawyer and as an Illinois Super Lawyer. The Super Lawyer designation identifies the top five percent of lawyers in the state, based upon research and surveys conducted by
Law and Politics magazine. In addition, he holds the AV Peer Review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for ethics and legal ability.
Mr. Levitt is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and holds a Master of Law Degree from The John Marshall School of Law. He is also a Certified Mediator in the Cook County Court-Annexed Major Case Civil Mediation Program.
The Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC) was organized in 1964 and currently has nearly 1,000 members. The purpose of the organization is to promote improvements in the administration of justice and enhance the service of the legal profession to the public; to encourage the prompt, fair and just disposition of tort litigation; to enhance the knowledge and improve the skills of defense lawyers; to advance the equitable and expeditious handling of disputes arising under all forms of insurance and surety contracts and to work for the elimination of court congestion and delays in civil litigation.
Membership in the IDC is open to any attorney who is a member in good standing of the bar of the State of Illinois; who is engaged actively in the practice of law either privately or on behalf of his/her corporate employer; who is of high professional standard; and who devotes a substantial portion of his or her professional practice to the representation of business, corporate, insurance, professional or individual civil litigants involving tort, contract, insurance, employment, municipal or business matters, and do not, for the most part, represent plaintiffs in personal injury litigation.
