LOS ANGELES ― The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced that
Robert L. Layton has joined its health care practice. Previously a partner at Duane Morris LLP, Mr. Layton is resident in the firm’s
Los Angeles office.

Mr. Layton has focused his practice for the past many years on the healthcare industry, representing some of the nation’s largest hospital systems and health providers. He has litigated numerous cases for health providers, and provides them with guidance on state and federal regulation. He also guides them through transactions and financings. His clients include large hospital systems, large insurers, medical groups, independent practice associations, medical tourism companies, laboratories, medical device companies and Medicare health plans. Mr. Layton was heavily involved in the creation of the largest provider-owned HMO in the country. He created the organization in record time for licensing on the state level and certification on a federal level. On the transactional side, he has successfully guided his clients through a variety of health care related mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Layton also counsels arbitrage hedge funds on regulatory and other strategies.
Mr. Layton earned his J.D. from the University of California Davis School of Law (1974), and his B.A., cum laude, in Economics from University of California Davis (1971). He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, National Association of Healthcare lawyers, American Academy of Hospital Attorneys, and the Health Care Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a past co-chair of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Health Committee.
