Kate Van Bokkelen focuses her practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense and general litigation.

Ms. Van Bokkelen is a former Deputy Attorney General in the Administrative and Regulatory Litigation Section of the Indiana Attorney General’s office. As such, she has diverse and considerable litigation experience, including defending agency actions, regulations and state statutes from constitutional challenges and other court challenges.

She has investigated and litigated violations of the Indiana False Claims Act and assisted in the prosecution of the largest vote fraud investigation in Indiana history. She also obtained the first settlement that utilized Indiana’s version of the False Claims Act for the State of Indiana against an asphalt contractor.
Professional Background
Ms. Van Bokkelen began her legal career in 2006 at the Office of the Indiana Attorney General in Indianapolis. She joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in August 2009.

During law school, she served a series of clerkships. In addition to clerking at Hinshaw in 2004, she clerked in 2004 with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office in Crown Point, Indiana. In 2005 – 2006 she was a law clerk at Clifford Law Offices in Chicago.

Ms. Van Bokkelen was a member of the Dean’s List. She worked on an independent study project with Professor Bruce L. Ottley, which entailed the research and drafting of several chapters of a products liability treatise.

Ms. Van Bokkelen was an associate member of the Indianapolis American Inns of Court. She is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
Community Service Activities
Ms. Van Bokkelen has volunteered with Rebuilding the Wall, a group that renovates abandoned homes. In addition she has volunteered with WPC’s Loaves & Fishes in preparing food for a warming shelter in Hammond, Indiana.
