Jennifer M. Sender

Practice Focus
Ms. Sender concentrates her practice in complex commercial matters for national and multi-national clients, including contract disputes, distributor disputes, product defects and environmental litigation.

Ms. Sender has extensive experience in counseling and representing clients in litigation relating to distributorship agreements, contract disputes, product defects and recalls, medical devices and various environmental issues. She has litigated cases in state and federal courts in New York, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, Minnesota and Indiana, as well as Illinois.

She has assisted clients in the uniform handling of national class action litigation, involving automotive products, pharmaceutical products (including Ephedra litigation) and devices, and environmental issues.

Ms. Sender is regional counsel for one of the largest telecommunications companies, providing assistance with environmental issues arising in retail property acquisitions.

She represents a number of foreign corporations and individuals in litigation pending in the United States, including products claims against foreign manufacturers, and torture and detainment claims against a former president of an African Nation. Ms. Sender has assisted clients in the petroleum industry, agricultural and construction equipment industry and consumer food products industry.

In addition to handling litigation, Ms. Sender has assisted clients in various risk management programs. For example, she has worked with in-house counsel to develop protocols to be used by their purchasing employees and the legal department for entering vendor contracts as preventive measures to attempt to avoid contract litigation, as well as a protocol for document and information coordination management in anticipation of litigation.
Professional Background
Ms. Sender joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in December 1996. She is an appointed member of the firm's Hiring Committee and Sexual Harassment Committee. Ms. Sender has been rated by Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethics.

Ms. Sender is active in a number of national and regional professional organizations. She is an active member of the American Bar Association. She is also a past President and a member of the Executive Board of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, which allows her to work closely with a number of Illinois trial, appellate and supreme court judges. She is the founder and Chair of the Women's Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Committee. She was also selected by the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois to act as an expert for consultation by the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune in the areas of commercial litigation and products liability.

Ms. Sender is also a founding member of the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals, a national educational and networking organization for women in various professions in the environmental field.

Community Service Activities
Ms. Sender was appointed in 2010 as the Corresponding Secretary for the Diversity Scholarship Foundation, which was established in 2008 by a group of attorneys and judges committed to the ideal that diverse law school student bodies are a means of ensuring further diversification in the legal community.
